Description
Course Overview
This two-day CPD course is designed for qualified osteopaths and chiropractors seeking to deepen their understanding of biomechanics and refine their application of osteopathic principles in clinical practice. Delegates will explore how biomechanical patterns develop, learn to identify the primary cause behind compensatory strain, and build sound treatment regimes across a range of OMT techniques — with a particular focus on improving HVLA outcomes and specificity.
The course uses a balanced mix of theory and hands-on practice, with each concept reinforced through supervised technique labs and case-based small group work.
Meet Your Presenter — John Abdullah
With 38 years of osteopathic experience, John Abdullah has treated elite athletes and public figures, and has built multiple high-volume, successful practices over the course of his career. He continues to treat patients in a high-volume practice two days a week on the Central Coast. John has mastered a diverse range of techniques and holds a deep understanding of the pain generators created by biomechanical strain, delivering quick, effective treatment protocols and management strategies for lasting patient outcomes.
Key Learning Outcomes
- Understand the core principles and practice of osteopathy in the context of biomechanics
- Identify biomechanical patterns and distinguish primary cause from compensatory (secondary) strain
- Apply osteopathic principles to biomechanical strain in order to restore neutrality and support optimum homeostasis
- Build and sequence treatment regimes across a range of OMT techniques
- Improve HVLA technique outcomes, safety and specificity
- Develop effective case management strategies for optimal long-term patient outcomes
Day 1 — Foundations & Assessment
- 9:00–10:30 Principles & Practice of Osteopathy — core osteopathic philosophy; homeostasis and neutrality as the goals of treatment
- 10:45–12:30 Biomechanics of Strain Patterns — how compensation develops; distinguishing primary lesion from secondary strain
- 1:30–3:00 Practical: Palpatory Assessment — identifying biomechanical patterns and locating the primary cause
- 3:15–5:00 Practical: Case-Based Small Groups — mapping patient presentations to underlying mechanical cause
Day 2 — Treatment Application & Outcomes
- 9:00–10:30 Building Treatment Regimes — sequencing OMT techniques to restore neutrality
- 10:45–12:30 Practical: OMT Technique Lab — supervised hands-on practice across key OMT techniques
- 1:30–3:00 Practical: HVLA Refinement — improving specificity, safety and consistency of HVLA outcomes
- 3:15–4:30 Management & Optimal Outcomes — treatment planning, review intervals, optimising long-term outcomes
- 4:30–5:00 Case Review, Q&A & Close — open discussion, feedback, certificates
